Our Journey
Owning such a vast collection of vintage wallpaper printing rollers does not come without its challenges, especially when the collection includes huge Surface Print and Silk Screen printing machinery. From sourcing adequate space to store it all and then the daunting task of physically moving tons of heavy equipment across the UK.
After settling into their Devon studio, Nigel and Amanda began exploring options to preserve and replicate the original rollers, which was extremely complex, especially as the sizes varied greatly.
Traditional mould making techniques results in seamlines on the castings, which was not an option when replicating the intricate detail on the rollers. So Nigel begun applying his unconventional engineering thinking to devise methods to standardise sizes and create seamless moulds.
Throughout their many years with Parable, there were endless problems to overcome, but Nigel and Amanda's steadfast belief in the uniqueness of their venture never wavered. After appearing on Channel 4's, 'Kirstie's Homemade Christmas' with Kirstie Allsopp, they were inundated with enquiries for their candles, which were loved by many all over the world. Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen said, "Although there's nothing as romantic as candlelight, I'm often disappointed that candles couldn't look better when unlit.....But then came Parable - with what can only be described as Candle Fine Art. Voluptuous on the eye lit or unlit. Parable make candles that are at home in the world's sexiest rooms".
After a pause during the Covid years, Nigel and Amanda rekindled their passion for the printing rollers and their original dream to create innovative lighting products. They also introduced Bishops Court Editions to showcase their mould making and casting skills to celebrate global artistic cultural traditions.
Nigel and Amanda deeply appreciate your support for their small British company. The next phase of their journey will be the culmination of years of hard work and dedication resulting in the fusion of the Parable brand with Bishops Court Editions.
